Oh that’s good. See what happened there?
To Paraphrase Mr. Keith Richards. The music business is a delicate balance between those who sell baked beans and the chefs.
From the outside it appears that all baked beans are the same. and all baked recipes are so good that everyone will love them. They are not and they are not.
Sometimes these Management relationships go well. Thank you Elliot Roberts, Lou Adler, Dan Mackta and Jane Rose & Benji Rogers. Sometimes not so much....
This is the story of what happens when Guy Hands got his hands on EMI. EMI, home to The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Beastie Boys and countless other musical geniuses. It was a part of Thorn (Makers of fine music and even finer nuclear warheads) for ages (‘79-’96)… then it went solo then it tried to find a buyer. Enter Hands man and his hedge fund pals. Within 3 years it was sold for scraps.
Ministry of Elliot Roberts
Usually we celebrate the lives of the Chefs who make the Baked Beans. Today we take time out to celebrate one of the Bean sellers. Elliot Rabinowitz nee Roberts. Elliot was from the Boogie Down Bronx.
Joni Mitchell, David Crosby, Jackson Browne, Tom Petty, Tracy Chapman and others but was best known for his five-decade association with Neil Young, Devo, the Cars, Yes, and Bob Dylan, Spiritualized, Mazzy Star and Devendra Banhart.
“Elliot Roberts was probably the kindest, gentlest, and far and away the funniest man I ever worked with in show business,” Mr. Stills said in a statement. “He was also tough as a barbed-wire fence, fiercely loyal and keenly observant.”
Agreeing with Steven Stills doesn’t happen much. But he’s right there. What a fucking awesome guy. Here he is with Grammy™ Award Winner Dan Zanes and Tom Petty.
